Public school students from the Hawkesbury will have the opportunity to learn about resilience, service, mateship and inclusion as part of the NSW Government Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Education Project, helping to share the spirit of the Sydney Games.

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet said the education programme was a fantastic opportunity to help students learn about overcoming hardships and the incredible sacrifices defence personnel make.

“The Invictus Games promote the importance of community service and resilience of the human spirit,” Mr Perrottet said.

“The education project gives students a unique learning experience away from the classroom where they can hear from Invictus competitors and learn about Australia’s history and the important role sport can play in supporting the recovery of those who have been injured or become sick.”

Mr Perrottet said the Education Programme is the first of its kind in Australia and will be made available to Richmond High School.

Mr Perrottet said he was delighted that the education program was being rolled out to hundreds of public schools across the State.

“The Invictus Games celebrates our veterans and serving personnel and pays tribute to the strength they have shown in overcoming the kinds of obstacles many of us will never face,” Mr Perrottet said.

“It is incredibly important that our schools teach students about the sacrifices our defence personnel make and the importance of community spirit, and I am pleased that the new education project will deliver on this.”

The Education Project is a joint initiative of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Department of Education and aims to provide high quality curriculum materials linked to the Invictus Games Sydney 2018.
