MICHAEL DALEY FAILS HIS OWN STANDARDS TEST

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet today slammed the Opposition Leader for misleading the House about key capital investment figures, just hours after committing to new standards for NSW Parliament.

“Michael Daley has been Leader of the Opposition for less than a week, and he’s already been caught out telling porkies to Parliament,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Michael Daley talks about high standards, but his behavior sets a new low for truthfulness.”

Mr Perrottet said Mr Daley misled Parliament on two occasions in his first major address to Parliament.

In his motion, Mr Daley claimed the promised investment had not taken place in the community across the state following the long-term lease of the poles and wires:

“For the citizens in that time, nothing has happened,” Mr Daley said.

Mr Perrottet said Mr Daley just needed to look outside his new office window for evidence of new projects.

“Unlike the Labor Party who pride themselves on cancelling projects, we are actually building them. The difference between our projects and Labor ones is that you can actually go out and see and touch them,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Whether it’s WestConnex, the Light Rail in Newcastle, Sydney or Parramatta, the North West Metro, NorthConnex, the Northern Beaches Hospital and Arthur Phillip High School – it’s all happening in NSW.”

“It is a fact that our infrastructure agenda of $87 billion is a new record for our state and the highest in the nation.”

“Over $35 billion dollars from asset recycling is being ploughed into schools, hospitals, road and rail across the state.”

Mr Daley then claimed the government was:

“Spending billions of dollars knocking down stadiums, instead of investing in schools and hospitals.”

Mr Perrottet said a simple reading of the Budget Papers showed record investments in Education and Skills, Health infrastructure and Transport.

“In the last eight years of the Labor government, they only spent $12.9 billion on education and hospitals. In our last eight years we have invested $17 billion – an increase of 31 per cent,” Mr Perrottet said.

“This funding bonanza is allowing us to deliver 170 new and upgraded schools across the state as well 40 new and upgraded hospitals.”

“More records are being broken with the highest ever capital investment in schools and hospitals set to take place over the next four years.”

“When it comes to transport, NSW Labor allocated a paltry $28 billion over 8 years. So far we have invested over $73 billion – that’s almost triple.”

“At the same time, we have delivered budget surpluses and have a negative net debt position.”

“These record numbers are only possible because of the very asset recycling that Mr Daley opposes.”

“Michael Daley did not have a firm grasp of figures when he was Finance Minister in the last Obeid/Tripodi/Macdonald Labor administration and clearly this has continued today.”

“It’s one thing to make a few rhetorical claims – it’s another to completely deny reality and willfully deceive the public.”

“I challenge Mr Daley to either demonstrate his claims are based on fact – or immediately apologise for misleading the Parliament.”
