Dominic Perrottet Statement on the2017/18 Federal Budget

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet

We are pleased that the Federal Government has committed to a needs-based approach to school funding, however we have significant concerns about the funding implications for NSW schools and will be looking closely at the detail of the Government’s proposal when it is provided.

We welcome the significant investment in infrastructure to benefit the people of Western Sydney with a commitment to fund a new airport at Badgerys Creek.

We are open to further conversations with the Federal Government on the future of Snowy Hydro, provided that any potential arrangement is in the best interests of the taxpayers of NSW and the local community.

In light of our significant infrastructure-building agenda, we are pleased that the asset recycling payments will be honoured by the Commonwealth.

As a State that is continually driving reform, we will be looking closely at how we can participate in the new incentive scheme to cut red tape for small businesses.

We welcome the continued funding of affordable housing, and the ongoing commitment to tackle homelessness.

While NSW continues to lead the nation with strong surpluses, responsible spending, reduced taxes, and a focus on state-building infrastructure, we look forward to working closely with the Commonwealth to grow the national economy and improve the lives of the working men and women of NSW.
